Phil Leonhardt leverages his extensive compositing and lighting experience to supervise visual effects. Phil was an Additional VFX Supervisor on The Christmas Chronicles 2 (2020). Involved from the early stages, he led Weta Digital’s team of artists in designing and building the characters, environments and effects which brought the magic of Christmas to the screen. A VFX Sequence Supervisor on Academy Award-nominated Avengers: Endgame (2019), Phil planned the staging for the epic third-act battle within the destroyed Avengers Compound, guiding the creation of environments and major story points. Sequence Supervisor on Alita: Battle Angel (2019), he played a leading role in creating Iron City with its complex integration of CG elements with live-action photography. His first role as Sequence Supervisor was on Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018). Phil launched his visual effects career in compositing with the highlight of working on several Harry Potter films. He joined Weta Digital as a Lead Compositor on King Kong (2005) and was a Compositing Supervisor on The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008). He transitioned into lighting on the ground-breaking Avatar (2009) and brought this combined experience to his CG supervisory roles on the Oscar-nominated films Prometheus (2012), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).
